VIDEO Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom

I love the special ticket party events at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.  While Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is still my favorite, there is a special place in my heart for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.  As a matter of fact, most of my friends prefer the Halloween event over the Christmas one.  Continue reading for my impressions of the event as well as VIDEOS of Madame Renata at the Haunted Mansion, the Headless Horseman, and the “Boo to You” Halloween Parade.

Depending upon when you arrive for the event, the Magic Kingdom will have been transformed.  Moving projections dance along the Main Street buildings.  The announcer let’s you know it’s Halloween time and there is an energy in the air.

Upon entry, you are given a small but tough candy collecting bag.  You can bring your own or buy larger ones in the park.  Candy stations are scattered throughout the Magic Kingdom and they are even handing out candy during the parade.  For most people, they have a full to semi-full bag by nights end.

I definitely recommend visiting the Haunted Mansion during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.  Why you may ask?  Because it’s different than normal.  The greenhouse of the mansion is lit in green and purple hues.  The whole mansion is covered in a layer of glowing light with fog throughout the property.  It’s surreal.  And the best part?  Madame Carlotta and her sister Renata periodically come out on the Mansion lawn to talk about their afterlife with guests.  They are simply a hoot and not to be missed.  I waited for Renata to create the video below – I really was shocked that she knew who I was…

I also try not to miss the “Boo To You” Halloween Parade.  The music is repetitive and silly but grows on you – and if you are like me and most others, you begin to really like it.  The parade celebrates most things Halloween with floats and characters you would not otherwise see had it not been for the season.  Right before the parade, the Headless Horseman makes an appearance through the Parade route.  The horse trots along while his headless rider, pumpkin head in hand, ominously wanders through the crowded streets.  I was lucky enough to be in the VIP area on the bridge between the castle and Liberty Square.  There is a lot more interaction with the parade characters here and the headless horseman does a little maneuvering in the spot as well.

There is also a very cool Monsters Inc. Dance party in Tomorrowland and one of the best fireworks displays ever to cap off the night.  The “Happy HalloWishes” fireworks and music are all unique for the event and rely heavily on Disney Villains.  It can be a costly night for a family, yet a time no one would likely ever forget.  If it is in your budget, definitely go without hesitation.  And be sure to dress up as I would say 50% of the guests were in some type of costume.  Some quite elaborate.
